Phil began developing the Dundee Hawkeye Newspaper Series in 2019, when he released the first Volume, covering the years 1890-1892.The Dundee Hawkeye Newspaper was the Dundee Township’s paper starting in 1890 and running through 1917.
Hidden from the public’s eye for over a century, Phil began a long process in 2017 of meticulously reviewing 18 reels of microfilm that had been stored away in the Dundee Township Library files since the 1960’s. Spending approximately 1 hour per paper, Phil is in the process of extracting every and any article that he has deemed of historical significance and is digitizing, restoring, and indexing each and every article, covering the gamut from local to national to world news, as well as local advertisements and obituaries. He then proceeds to format each article into these new books.
Reading these books is comparable to entering a time machine - It’s the closest anyone will ever come to transporting themselves back in time into East & West Dundee or Carpentersville’s past, 130 years ago.
As of now, three volumes have been produced, Volumes 1, 2, and 3.
